1 June 2023 – Associate Professor Dr. Attaphongse Taparugssanagorn from the School of Engineering and Technology embarked on a research collaboration journey with the Centre for Wireless Communications (CWC) at the University of Oulu in Finland. This endeavor, “The ROVER,” falls under the EU Horizon2020 Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions, Research, and Innovation Staff Exchange (RISE) program. The primary objective of this collaboration is to explore various research directions in advanced wireless communication systems, signal processing, and machine learning for in-body wireless networks.

During his visit, Dr. Attaphongse interacted with notable experts in the field and had fruitful conversations with Prof. Jari Iinatti, the Head of Unit Telecommunications Theory at CWC-Networks and Systems Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering, Dr. Matti Hämäläinen, an Adjunct Professor and University Researcher with the Centre for Wireless Communications, University of Oulu, as well as Dr. Mariella Särestöniemi, an Adjunct Professor and Researcher with the Centre for Wireless Communications, a research unit, Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering, and the Research Unit of Health Sciences and Technology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Oulu,

The discussions revolved around several exciting research topics, including Wireless Capsule Endoscopy Radio Channel Characteristics Using Anatomically Realistic Gastrointestinal Simulation Models and Wireless Capsule Endoscope Localization. The aim was to define the scope of the work undertaken during the researchers’ visit and lay the groundwork for a joint publication plan.

About Telecommunications program:

The Telecommunications program offers areas of specialization in transmission systems; switching systems; telematics; network planning, and in collaboration with the School of Management, telecommunications management.

The courses offered to emphasize modern telecommunications skills in systems planning and engineering, telecommunications software development, and administrative and financial aspects of telecommunications management. The research focus areas of the program are transmission systems, telematics, network planning, coherent optical communications, multiple-access strategies, cellular-mobile and cabled networks, and congestion control.
