Dr. Sugimin Pranoto, Director of AIT Center in Indonesia (AIT-CI), initiated through the Directorate General of Highways, Ministry of Public Works, the following new programs for AIT:

  • Short Courses (Legal and Contractual Risk Management; Information Technology in Construction; Road Safety and Management in Construction; Transportation Policy and Environmental Limits). These short courses are to be conducted in 2008 under funding from the World Bank through the ERTP program. AIT will send the curriculum, course duration, and budget requirements to AITCI for further follow up.
  • Master’s Degree Program (Professional Master Engineering (PME) for the Directorate General of Highways, to be funded by under the SRIP program, by the World Bank for 10 students). Likewise, AIT will send the curriculum, course duration, and budget requirements to AITCI for further follow up.

According to AIT President Said Irandoust, this once again highlights the importance for AIT to have an active presence in the region through the establishment of satellite centers, branches or outpost offices, which can help provide timely intelligence on initiatives and activities such as the ones above, through funds provided by World Bank, ADB, and other donors directly to the countries in the region.
