Mr. Max Meyer, Dipl Bau Ing ETH. SIA, VSL Technical Centre Asia/Australia, will conduct a seminar on SEGMENTAL CONSTRUCTION FOR BRIDGES & FLYOVERS -From Concept over Design and Detailing to Construction of State-of-the-Art Pre-stressed Concrete Bridges in Urban Areas, on Wednesday, 26 March 2008, from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. in room N-240, Academic Building.

Abstract:

After an introduction basic considerations during conceptual design stage are explained. The presentation focuses on the following bridge construction methods: 

  • Span by span construction using movable scaffolding system (MSS)
  • Incrementally launched bridges (ILM bridges)
  • Pre-cast segmental bridges

About the Speaker:

Max Meyer, Dipl Bau Ing ETH.SIA, VSL Technical Centre Asia/Australia, received a Diploma in Civil Engineering, 1982, ETH Zurich (Federal Institute of Technology Zurich, Switzerland). He was a a Professional Engineer Singapore, 1991 and a member of SIA (Swiss Engineers and Architects Association) and IABSE (international Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering). Max Meyer, working in the Far East for the past twenty four years, is presently Manager of VSL‘s Technical Centre Asia/Australia in Singapore which provides technical support to all VSL companies in the Far East and Australia. His areas of activities include feasibility studies, conceptual and final designs, costing and methods for pre-stressed buildings, bridges, circular storage structures, formwork systems, erection equipment for bridge construction, etc.

Interested persons are cordially invited to attend the seminar. All doctoral and master’s students in the structural engineering field (STE) and construction engineering and infrastructure management (CEIM) are expected to attend.
