The President discussed the triple-helix concept wherein a local
reputed academic counterpart, a government agency and a private sector
company could establish a collaborative research / educational capacity
building platform. The Ambassador who had earlier visited AIT in 2006
expressed his delight on learning that the Higher Education
Commission’s (HEC) and AIT will be working towards establishing an AIT
Center in Pakistan. Ambassador Kamal stated that this type of
collaboration would not only benefit Pakistan, but also provide a
window through which students from neighbouring countries could be
attracted as well.
It was agreed that by the second week of November 2009, AIT would send
the first draft of the concept note to Ambassador Kamal indicating the
strengths of AIT in the field of environment and agriculture.
Ambassador Kamal stated that he would assist in forwarding the concept
note to the relevant ministries in Pakistan as well as potential
academic and private sector companies who could be interested to work
closely with AIT.
The AIT President was accompanied by Mr. Sanjeev Jayasinghe Director,
Fundraisign Campaign and Dr. Naveed Anwar, Director, School of
Engineering and Technology (SET).
Ambassador Kamal had visited AIT earlier along with Mr. Ahmed Amjad
Ali, Charge d’Affaires Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan,
Bangkok, Thailand where he was welcomed by Dr. Pritam K. Shrestha,
Head-ERCO along with Dr. Naveed Anwar, Mr. Jayasinghe, Mrs. Naina
Shakya, Coordinator for Partner Relations & Development, ERCO and
Mr. Faisal Bukhari, President of the AIT Pakistan Student Association.
