AIT hosts eight nation cricket tournament

The lush grounds of AIT was host to six matches including Thailand
versus Iran, Iran versus Qatar, Iran versus Myanmar, the seventh
position playoff between Brunei and Myanmar, semi finals between
Thailand and Saudi Arabia, apart from third position playoff between
Qatar and Thailand.

The eight teams were divided into Group ‘A’ comprising of Qatar,
Thailand, Iran and Myanmar, while Group ‘B’ comprised of Saudi Arabia,
Maldives, China and Brunei. In the final two matches, Maldives defeated
Saudi Arabia by one wicket at the finals held at the Thailand Cricket
Ground, Bangkok; while Qatar defeated Thailand by a margin of 116 runs
at the match held at AIT grounds on 11 December 2010. Qatar came third,
while Thailand was placed fourth in the tournament.

AIT cricket grounds are known to be one of the best in Thailand, and
have been host to other cricket tournaments as well. The AIT cricket
team has played in the Thailand Premier Division. In 2008, it had
reached the final in the Premier Division. According to Mr. Abid
Hussain, captain of the AIT cricket team, the AIT team shall be
participating in both the Premier Division and the ‘A’ Division when
the season begins in mid December 2010.
