Media applauds Yunus Center at AIT

the whole country, some of them for the whole world, you never know.

The signing of Charter of the Yunus Center at AIT has been applauded by
both the media, both local and International. The signing ceremony
between Nobel Laureate Prof. Muhammad Yunus, Chairman, Yunus Centre,
Dhaka and Prof. Said Irandoust, President of AIT took place yesterday
at the Foreign Correspondents Club of Thailand ( www.fccthai.com/  ) in
Bangkok on August 19th.

During the signing H.E. Dr. Tej Bunnag, former foreign minister of
Thailand and Chairman of AIT Board of Trustees remarked that the Asian
Institute of Technology is honored by the fact that that Prof. Yunus
visited Bangkok to sign the Charter to launch the Yunus Center at AIT.
His visit to Bangkok directly followed his visit to the United States
of America where he was personally honored with the 2009 US Medal of
Freedom by President Barack Obama at the White House on August 12.

“Over its half century history, the AIT has played an important
role in the development of technologies, scientific competence and
professional capacity in of the Asian region. This partnership follows
in the great tradition of empowerment through higher education and
takes our mission to a new level,” H.E. Dr. Tej remarked.

Welcoming the delegates, Prof. Dr. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, Vice
President for Resources Development Prof. Worsak stated that this is a
special day in the history of the AIT. “It is a good day for Thailand
and great day for the region at large,” Prof. Worsak said.

He added that the launch of the Yunus Center signals AIT’s intent to
follow the mission of Prof. Yunus which is about empowering people who
are often left behind when we talk about development. “AIT is about
employing knowledge and technology to situations of concern, and in the
last 50 years AIT has continuously offered technological solutions that
are practical, beneficial and sustainable to the region,” Prof. Worsak
said. He added that AIT takes pride in its new
partnership with  Prof. Yunus and to be associated with the
Nobel Laureate’s mission of working for the eradication of poverty in
our world.
