Prof. Harada and Prof Omura, both of whom have a long association with
AIT, expressed their sympathy at the losses suffered by AIT. They added
that Tohoku University had also suffered a major loss when three of its
buildings were damaged following the earthquake in Japan. “We are sure
that AIT shall remerge from the disaster very soon,” Prof. Harada
added.

Prof. Irandoust thanked Tohoku University for its support, and
remarked that a number of institutions from Japan had supported AIT
both during and after the disaster. The delegation was shown around by
the campus by Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, Vice President for Resource
Development. The delegates visited the School of Environment, Resources
and Development (SERD), where they met Prof. Chettiyappan Visvanathan.
They visited the AIT Library, which was earlier donated by the
Government of Japan and which has suffered immense loss during the
flood.

Among those who attended the meeting included Mr. Sanjeev Jayasinghe,
Director, Fundraising; and Ms. Sumana Shrestha, Program Officer,
External Relations and Communications Office (ERCO).
