35 students from 5 Institutes participate in AIT summer program

Interacting with the visiting students on 2 August
2013, Prof. Worsak remarked that AIT is known for its internationality.
At AIT, students transcend nationalities and study together as AIT
students. He added that the Government of India was a consistent
supporter of AIT. Enthusiastic students while meeting AIT’s Interim
President Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai wanted to learn more about the
premier Institute. Impressed by the AIT campus and its educational and
research offerings, the students expressed their desire to continue
their higher studies at AIT.

Also attending the meeting was Prof. Arun
Samaddar, Director, National Institute of Technology (NIT), Sikkim,
India and nearly one dozen journalists from leading media houses from
India. Two faculty members from the JIS group, Mr. Sajal Saha and Ms.
Ipsita Saha also joined the deliberations. The media community, who
came from both print and television, interviewed various AIT officials
and the visiting JIS students to learn about their experience at
AIT.

Speaking to the media, Acting Dean of AIT’s School
of Engineering and Technology (SET), Dr. Nitin Kumar Tripathi remarked
that the summer program is intended to inform students from India about
the latest educational and research offerings at AIT. “This widens the
horizons of the participating students, and exposes them to the latest
developments in various fields,” Dr. Tripathi said.

The summer program included introduced to various
fields including Geographical Information System (GIS), transportation
systems, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), regional development,
3D mapping, computer graphics, augmented reality, environmental
management, digital photogrammetry, advanced mapping, urban safety,
climate and health, packaging technology, telecommunications, computer
science, robotics, civil engineering, construction engineering
management, and climate change. Field trips included visits to the
National Science Museum and the National Science and Technology
Development Agency (NSTDA).

The students who participated in the program came
from Narula Institute of Technology, Guru Nanak Institute of
Technology, Dr.Sudhir Chandra Sur Degree Engineering College, Greater
Kolkata College of Engineering and Management, and JIS College of
Engineering.
