Campus vignettes come alive at AIT Video Competition

The creative talents of AIT students were on full display during the
screening of six videos during the AIT Short Film Festival and Prize
Distribution organized on 12 November 2014.Based on the theme “A day in the life of an AIT student,” students
competed against each other to prepare short videos on their daily
life. Six teams submitted their videos peppered with vignettes of
campus life, ranging from the dramatic to the mundane.

Announced in September, students had three weeks to prepare their
videos, and they were screened at AIT’s Milton E. Bender Jr. Auditorium
on 12 November 2014.

The three judges Dr. Sohee Minsun Kim of Urban Environmental
Management (UEM), Dr. K R Salin of Aquaculture & Aquatic Resources
Management (AARM), and Ms. Jin Ying, Lecturer, Chinese Language,
evaluated the videos based on the three criterion of creativity,
technique and overall impact.

The video “Life in a day,” where the two students, Mirantha
Jayathilaka and Amila Madhushanka used the time machine concept emerged
as the clear winner in the competition. “A day with selfies” by
Sachinta Wijethunga, capitalized on the selfie phenomenon to bag the
second prize. Eranga Perera’s “We found love in a whole new place” got
the third prize.

“Day in the life” by Tarif Maharjan and Sajal Man Shrestha; “AIT in my
heart” by Hoang Phi Ngoc Anh and Bang Tran; and “A Day of a life of an
AIT student” by E. M. Omila Madushan Munaweera and Malika Ratnayake
were the other three contestants. Shristika Prasai and Janitha Yasasvi
acted as the Emcees at the event,

The competition was organized by the Media and Communications Unit
(MCU) along with the AIT Students Union.
