Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU) has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) for launching a Unified Bachelor-Master Degree Program. The MoA was signed by Dr. Stephen Mavely, Vice Chancellor of ADBU, and Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, President of AIT on 21 September 2015.

Signing the MoA, Dr. Stephen Mavely stated that besides this agreement, they would also like to initiate a collaboration in other programs, including student exchange. The ADBU Vice Chancellor said that although their University was established in 2008, they have already launched a significant number of programs ranging from Bachelor’s to Doctoral degrees. Over 5,000 students have also enrolled in their online courses.

Prof. Worsak mentioned the close ties of Thailand with the Indian province of Assam, stating that historic cultural linkages provide a good basis for expansion of educational ties. He also thanked AIT alumnus Dr. Sunandan Baruah, Head, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, College of Engineering and Technology, ADBU, for initiating the partnership between AIT and ADBU.

Prof. Nitin Kumar Tripathi, Director, Special Degree Programs (SDP) added that North East India is a key area for AIT, and the Institute regularly receives students from Assam and neighbouring states. He informed the visiting delegation that AIT has also signed an agreement with the JIS Group of Institutes, which is based in West Bengal.

The objective of the MoA is to offer a “Five-year Unified Bachelor Master Degree Program” jointly by ADBU and AIT. ADBU will send students to AIT to pursue their Master’s study after completing three and a half year of studies at ADBU.

Dr. Huynh Trung Luong, Coordinator, Industrial Systems Engineering (ISE); and Dr. Gabrielle Groves Punyaratabandhu, Head, External Relations and Communications Office (ERCO); also attended the MoA signing ceremony.
