In his welcome address, AIT Vice President for Academic Affairs Prof.
Sivanappan Kumar congratulated the August 2015 Semester incoming class
for gaining acceptance to AIT over many other applicants. The vice
president provided a brief introduction of AIT’s significant impact on
society since its inception in 1959, and emphasized its leading role to
address many challenges facing the Asia Pacific region in the 21st
century.
Prof. Kumar noted the institute’s influential status amongst
universities in the region, in particular its 2015 ranking as the top
international university in the world, according to U-Multirank. “AIT’s
success is measured by the great success of our alumni, and what you
too will achieve in your careers,” he said, recounting the storied
achievements of AIT’s 21,000-plus grads across industry, academia,
government and international organizations, to name a few.
“You are a brand ambassador for your country,” said the vice
president, stressing the need for AIT students to hold themselves to
the very highest standards of personnel and academic ethical
contact.
The new students were also introduced to AIT by Prof. Kazuo Yamamoto,
Vice President for Resource Development; and to its three schools by
Prof. C Visvanathan, Dean, School of Environment, Resources and
Development (SERD); Prof. Nitin Kumar Tripathi, Acting Dean, School of
Engineering and Technology (SET); and Dr. Yuosre F Badir representing
the School of Management (SOM). Also welcoming them was Mr. Muhammad
Imran, President, AIT Students’ Union.
Guided by Ms. Laarni B. Roa, Head, Student Office and Dr. Tenzin
Rabgyal, Coordinator, Admissions and Scholarships Unit, students were
also introduced to AIT the Language Center, English language
requirements, academic requirements, student code of conduct, student
welfare, student code of conduct, ethical standards, placement and
counseling services, medical services, IT services, educational visa,
government relations services, student accommodation, and facility
management.
