Philippine Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction experts visit AIT

Six climate change and disaster risk reduction experts from the Philippines visited the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) on 20 March 2015 to explore research and development collaboration.

Representing the Accelerated Science and Technology Human Resource
Development Program (ASTHRDP) of the Philippines Department of Science
and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI), the six
experts presented their work in the field of climate science and
disaster management. Keen to explore partnership with AIT in improving
their graduate program, they suggested that students from their
universities could come to AIT as exchange students.

They stated that the Science Education Institute is a service agency
of the Department of Science and Technology which focusses on
developing a scientifically and technologically literate citizenry, and
it seeks to accelerate the development of science and technology human
resources needed for socio-economic development.

The delegation from the Philippines included Dr. Gay Jane Perez,
Associate Professor, Institute of Environmental Science and
Meteorology, University of the Philippines Diliman, Quezon City; Dr.
Felino P. Lansigan, Professor and Dean, College of Arts and Sciences,
University of the Philippines Los Banos, Laguna, Philippines; Dr. Edgar
Vallar, Associate Professor, De La Salle University, Manila,
Philippines; Dr. Gay Defiesta, Associate Professor, University of the
Philippines Visayas, Miagao, Iloilo, Philippines; Dr. Josette Biyo,
Director, Science Education Institute, Department of Science and
Technology, Bicutan, Taguig City, Philippines; Dr. Gemma Teresa T.
Narisma, Associate Professor, Department of Physics, Ateneo de Manila
University, Quezon City, Philippines; and Ms. Ma. Daisy Demoni,
Supervising Science Research Specialist, Science Education Institute,
Department of Science and Technology, Bicutan, Taguig City,
Philippines.

AIT was represented by Prof. Kazuo Yamamoto, Vice President Resource
Development; Prof. Voratas Kachitvichyanakul, Dean, School of
Engineering and Technology (SET); Prof. Jayant Kumar Routray and Dr.
Indrajit Pal of School of Environment, Resources and Development
(SERD); Dr.Dr. Victor Rana Shinde, Senior Specialist, SET; and Dr.
Gabrielle Groves, Head, External Relations and Communications Office
(ERCO).
