Uzbekistan Consulate-General delegation visits AIT

“With its immense contribution in the field of education, science and
arithmetic, Uzbekistan has a lot of potential,” Vice-Counsul Mr.
Sherzod said. Accompanied by two officials — Chief of Chancery Mr.
Murad Talipov, and Mr. Worachit, Secretary to Consulate General, the
three-member delegation explored possibilities of cooperation between
AIT and academic and research institutions in Uzbekistan.

Mr. Sherzod invited AIT officials to visit, and offered to facilitate
meetings between AIT and the Ministry of Higher Education. He
elaborated on the expanding education sector in Uzbekistan, stating
that the Management Development Institute of Singapore and Westminster
International University have recently established their
campuses.

AIT President Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai stated that AIT had started
its collaboration with Uzbekistan about two decades ago, and so far 12
students from Uzbekistan have studied at AIT. He informed the
delegation about AIT’s internationality and invited them to explore
research and faculty exchange. Prof. Sivanappan Kumar, Vice President
of Academic Affairs, AIT, explored the possibility of governmental
support for students from Uzbekistan.

AIT was represented by Prof. Worsak, Prof. Kumar, Prof. Voratas
Kachitvichyanukul, Dean, School of Engineering and Technology (SET);
Prof. C. Visvanathan, Dean, School of Environment, Resources and
Development (SERD); Mr. Sanjeev Jayasinghe, Director, Fundraising; Mr.
Fazle Karim, Senior Program Specialist, AIT Extension; Dr. Gabrielle
Groves, Head, External Relations and Communications Office (ERCO); and
Ms. Sumana Shrestha, Program Officer, ERCO.

The meeting was accompanied by a mini exhibition on Uzbekistan, put up
next to the Board Room in the AIT Administration Building.
