61 graduate at informal inter-semester graduation ceremony

Graduating students came from 10 countries —  India, Indonesia,
Iran, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, PR China, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and
Vietnam. Forty-two graduates came from AIT’s School of Engineering and
Technology (SET),while 16 came from the School of Environment,
Resources and Development (SERD); two from the School of Management
(SOM), and one from a joint SERD-SOM program.

Speaking on behalf of the AIT President, Prof. Kazuo Yamamoto, Vice
President for Administration (VPA) described AIT as a global village
that produces future leaders. He mentioned that graduation is an
occasion where their hard work, efforts and accomplishments are
recognized. However, these accomplishments are a starting point for
future achievements, Prof. Yamamoto remarked. He exhorted upon
graduands to maintain their linkage with their alma mater and
contribute towards its mission of producing global citizens.

The candidates were presented by the Chair of the Academic Senate,
Prof. Mukand Singh Babel on behalf of the Vice President for Academic
Affairs. Graduating students were introduced by their School Deans —
Prof. Rajendra Shrestha, Dean, SERD; Prof. Nazrul Islam, Interim Dean,
SOM; and Dr. Matthew N. Dailey, Acting Dean,SET. Ms Laarni B. Roa,
Director, Office of Student Affairs (OSA) was the Master of
Ceremonies.

Addressing the graduands, AIT’s Vice President for Development (VPD)
Mr. Surendra Shrestha mentioned how the world is looking towards the
East, and that Asia is increasingly playing a dominant role in the
global economy. He also spoke about the transition from an industrial
to a digital knowledge economy, and the global focus on Sustainable
Development. Asking students to focus on the big picture, he asked them
to search for inner peace and happiness by looking inwards rather than
pursuing external riches.
