Engage in lifelong learning, become global citizens: AIT President

It is important to engage in lifelong learning and to acquire knowledge at every stage in life. Lifelong learning has assumed increased importance since what we learn today may no longer remain relevant in the next four to five years. This was the message of AIT President Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai on the occasion of “Open House” organized at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) on 17 February 2017.

President Worsak told participants that “learning to learn” is a critical aspect of our lives. He added that in an increasingly competitive world, a Bachelor’s degree is not enough to embark on a career. At AIT, besides imparting education, the endeavour is to create global citizens, President Worsak said.

Also addressing the students was AIT alumnus Dr. Amornpon Changsuphan, Scientist, Ministry of Science and Technology, who spoke about how AIT had impacted his life. It brought me academic benefits, life benefits, and friend benefits, he said. Speaking about the international and multicultural atmosphere at AIT, Dr. Amornpon stated that AIT had made a positive impact on all aspects of his life.

Also participating in the AIT Open House was the President of Siam University Prof. Pornchai Mongkhonvanit, representatives of the Thailand’s Military Research and Development Centre (MRDC), besides a strong representation of Chinese students who are currently studying at 10 different universities in Thailand.

Addressing the students was Mr. Shawn P Kelly, Director, Office of External Relations, Ms. Chalita Lertwinyu, Director, Office of Host Country Relations, and Dr. Tenzin Rabgyal, Coordinator, Admissions and Scholarships Unit.

Participants visited the AIT library, the School of Engineering and Technology (SET), School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD), and School of Management (SOM). Interested candidates also appeared in the English Entry Test (EET).
