19 September 2007: Special Gender Sensitivity Workshop by Ms. Nelien Haspels

17 Sep 2007
AIT

Ms. Nelien Haspels, Senior Gender Specialist, International Labour Organization, Sub-regional Office for East Asia, kindly agreed to facilitate a series of gender sensitivity workshops/trainings at AIT. The workshop conducted on 31 August entitled, “Gender Mainstreaming in Institutions of Higher Learning” and “Action Against Sexual Harassment” was attended by the Dean, School of Engineering and Technology (SET), Associate Dean for New Development, SET, some of Field of Study Coordinators from the three Schools, members of the faculty, staff and students. One of the main suggestions ensuing from the discussions following the presentations was to conduct a gender sensitivity training session for new students as part of their orientation. This would increase students’ awareness and understanding of this important issue.

The series of workshops are also aimed at providing an opportunity to every member of our faculty to be able to attend at least one of the four workshops being organized, together with staff members who have supervisory roles. The first gender sensitivity workshop for members of the administration was held on 22 February 2007, and was attended by AIT President, the Vice Presidents, as well as some of the Deans and Administrative Office Heads.

The next workshop on “Gender Mainstreaming in Institutions of Higher Learning” and “Action Against Sexual Harassment” will be held on Wednesday, 19 September 2007, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. (Venue to be announced.)
