AIT will be formally transferring the administration and management of the “.th” domain name to the Thai Network Information Center Foundation. The .th domain was first registered in 1988 by AIT faculty member Professor Kanchana Kanchanasut, who is also the Director of intERLab. She has administered the .th domain since its founding, and taken the lead in this field, often being referred to as the “mother of the Internet” in Thailand. Through her various initiatives, AIT has played a key role in the development of the Internet not only in Thailand but also in the Asian region – a fact which has been well recognized and recorded by the Internet community. Professor Kanchana played an active role in the setting up of the Foundation which has been approved by the Ministry of Interior and also endorsed by the Ministry of ICT. The Foundation represents key Internet stakeholders in Thailand.
The Foundation will actively partner AIT in future initiatives. As a goodwill gesture, the Foundation intends to donate a fund to the AIT Golden Jubilee Campaign for the creation of a Chair Professor position at AIT in internet technology for a four-year period.
