Visit of Philippine University Presidents

On 21 April, a delegation of Philippine university presidents and managers / chairpersons of regional research consortia involved in agriculture and natural resources R&D visited the Institute as part of a study visit to Thailand for the Continuing Education Program of Agricultural Innovation Managers of the Philippines.

The delegation was comprised of Dr. Jose Bacusmo, President, Visayas State University & Chairperson, Visayas Consortium for Agriculture and Resources Program (ViCARP); Dr. Romeo Quilang, President, Isabela State University & Chairperson, Cagayan Valley Agricultural Research Complex (CVARRD); Dr. Feliciano Rosete, President, Ramon Magsaysay Technological University & Chairperson, Central Luzon Agriculture and Resources Research and Development Consortium (CLARDEC); Dr. Rogelio Colting, President, Benguet State University; and Dr. Richard Juanillo, Deputy Executive Director for Institution Development & Resource Management, Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources Research and Development, Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

Under the National Agriculture and Resources Research System (NARRS) of the Philippines, the Regional Research and Development Coordinating Council (RRDCC) Chairpersons are tasked to spearhead the planning, coordinating, monitoring and evaluating of agriculture and natural resource research and development programs in their respective regions.  Most of these RRDCC Chairpersons would require training on managing research and innovations, as well as the opportunity to observe and understand the systems and practices of managing R&D and technologies of the other Asian countries that are more successful in converting research results to engines of development.

Dr. Juanillio stated DOST’s interest in exploring the Human Resource Development Program for DOST officers. The 2-Stage Master’s program and Integrated Program can be explored as possible collaboration.
