SET and SERD welcome visiting faculty

The School of Engineering and Technology (SET) and the School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD), welcome two visiting faculty members, Dr. Umamahesh V. Nanduri, and Dr. Juntakan Taweekun, who joined the schools respectively.

Dr. Umamahesh V. Nanduri joined the Water Engineering and Management Field of study, SET, as a visiting faculty. Dr. Nanduri is working as Professor in Water and Environment Division, Department of Civil Engineering, National Institute of Technology (NIT), Warangal, India. He obtained his B.E. in Civil Engineering from Osmania University, Hyderabad, India in 1984, his M.Tech in Water Resources Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India, in 1986, and his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from NIT, Warangal in 1995. He also has a PG Diploma in Computer Science obtained from NIT, Warangal. He has twenty years of teaching experience.

His areas of research include Water Resources Systems, Reservoir Operation, Irrigation Management, Water Quality Management, ANN and Fuzzy Logic Applications in Hydrology and Water Resources and GIS applications. He has published about 40 papers in national and international journals, international conferences and articles in books. He has supervised four doctoral theses and two more students have just submitted their theses. He has also supervised 35 students for their M.Tech theses. Dr. Nanduri was actively involved in various research and consultancy works under taken at NIT Warangal. He was the coordinator for a 30 million (Indian rupees) worth project on Watershed Development in select districts of Warangal District sponsored by Ministry of Rural Development of the Government of India. The Government of Andhra Pradesh awarded him the ‘Jalamitra’ award in 2004 for successful implementation of this project. He organized one international conference on Advanced Modeling Techniques for Sustainable Management of Water Resources in January 2004, besides several workshops and short term courses.

Dr. Umamahesh is offering the course Water Resources Systems (CE74.13) in Water Engineering and Management Field of study during this August 2007 Semester.

Dr. Juntakan Taweekun joined the Energy Field of Study, SERD, as an Adjunct Assistant Faculty for a period of one semester (August 2007).

Dr. Juntakan Taweekun is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Engineering, Prince of Songkla University. She secured her PhD, at the Energy Field of Study (EPSM), AIT. She has been teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels at Prince of Songkla University for many years. Her research interests are Energy Conservation in Buildings and Industries, Passive Cooling, Building Energy Analysis and Simulation, i.e., DOE-2, Neural Network, Energy Plus, Biomass Energy, Renewable Energy, Daylighting, Refrigeration System and Energy Planning. She has been published in two international journals and in eighteen international conferences’ papers. Dr. Juntakan will offer the course ED72.17: Energy Management in Buildings during the August Semester 2007.
