FACULTY WELCOME

The Agriculture, Aquatic Systems and Engineering Program, School of Environment, Resources and Development, welcomes Dr. S. Ranamukhaarachchi from Sri Lanka , as a Visiting Faculty in the Agricultural Systems field of study. He joined AIT from the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya.

Dr. Ranamukhaarachchi obtained his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Agronomy-Cropping Systems from the Pennsylvania State University, State College, Pennsylvania, USA in 1983 and 1985, respectively. He served as a Visiting Lecturer at the Post-graduate Institute of Agriculture, and the Post-graduate Institute of Science of the University of Peradeniya and the University of Kelaniya in Sri Lanka.

He also served as Consultant Agronomist in the World Bank-funded National Irrigation Rehabilitation Project (1989-1991 and from 1993-1996) and in the Asian Development Bank-funded North-Western Province Water Resources Development Project (1994-1996).

His specific research interests include cropping systems and farming systems, weed management, crop physiology and management of soil fertility.He can be contacted in room 107, AFE Building, Tel. Ext. 5474 (e-mail: [email protected])

The Pulp and Paper Technology of the Processing Technology Program, SERD, welcomes Dr. Elias Retulainen as an Associate Professor and Finnish Project Director to AIT. Dr. Retulainen obtained his M.Sc., Licentiate of Technology Degree and Ph.D. in Paper Technology from Helsinki University of Technology (UNT). He was an Associate Professor and leader of various projects at HUT, and research manager for Condebelt at Valmet Corporation.

Dr. Retulainen is a well-known scholar in the paper science community. He has 11 patents and over 60 publications in various fields of paper science and technology. His general research interests are properties of fibres and fines, paper structure, inter-fiber bonding and paper drying. Dr. Retulainen is a junior Fellow of Academy of Finland.
