Opening of Institute-wide GIS/RS laboratory

The Institute-wide GIS/RS laboratory was officially opened on 3 February by Prof. Mario Tabucanon, Provost. Joining Prof. Tabucanon in addressing the ceremony were Prof. Phien, SAT Dean; Dr. Koji Takewaka, Japanese Faculty Representative; and Dr. Honda Kiyoshi, STAR Program Coordinator. Dr. Nitin Tripathi demonstrated the operation of the facilities, which were supported by a 3.3 million Baht equipment grant from the Government of Japan.

The laboratory aims to support GIS and remote sensing technology as a tool to be used by the AIT community. The STAR Program is managing the GIS laboratory and has made it available for Institute-wide GIS course. Courses have been delivered by the STAR Program for 127 students from SERD, SCE and SAT, since the January 1999 term.

Guidelines concerning the use of the laboratory can be obtained at http://www.start.ait.ac.th
