Zayed International Prize for the Environment
The President of the United Arab Emirates has a personal dedication to environmental issues and invests heavily in environmental concerns. In honour of his work, an environmental prize has been established in his name: the Zayed International Prize for the Environment (UNEP HQ was involved in its establishment). The prize, worth 1 million US dollars, is awarded once every two years. The first award is due to be given in 2001, and the deadline for submissions is 30 September 2000.
