Korea 50 Years: 1950-2000

AIT Korea Week, under the theme ‘Korea 50 years: 1950-2000’, was held recently to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Korean War. The event was organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea and AIT with sponsorship from Thai Samsung Electronics Co., Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), Korea National Tourism Organization, and the AIT Alumni Association Korea Chapter. The Week featured social and cultural activities providing a retrospective of Korea’s development in the last 50 years.

Presiding over the opening ceremony were H.E. Dr. Kim Kook-chin (center), the Korean Ambassador, and Prof. Jean-Louis Armand (fourth from left), AIT President. With them are, from left: Dr. Fredric W. Swierczek of SOM; Mr. Yoon Moon-han, Information and Cultural Attache, Korean Embassy; Prof. Mario T. Tabucanon, Provost; Dr. Young Suk-Hyun, a Korean faculty seconded to SOM; Mr. Lee Sang-Ahn, KOICA Resident Representative (Thailand Office); Prof. Himangshu Paul, SOM Dean; and Chair Prof. A. S. Balasubramaniam, GTE Program Coordinator.
