Data Management and Information Systems.

The Integrated Tropical Coastal Zone Management program is organizing a
module course on Data Management and Information Systems. This course
will be conducted by Dr. JØrgen Staunstrup, from 25-28 October in
room A25 of the Aquaculture Outreach and Training Building. The sessions
will be from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Dr. JØrgen Staunstrup has a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the
University of Southern California-Los Angeles, a Dr. Techn from the
Technical University of Denmark, and an M.Sc. in Mathematics and
Computer Science from Aarhus University. He is currently the Head of the
Hydroinformatics Department of the Danish Hydraulics Institute (DHI). He
has been an Associate Professor at Aarhus University (1978-1988), a Full
Professor at Technical University of Denmark (1988-1999) and the
Director of Thomas B. Thriges Center for Microinstruments (1997-1999).

Externally Prestressed Concrete Structures-Mechanical Behavior, Theory, Design and Application

Prof. Hiroshi Mutsuyoshi from the Department of Civil Engineering, Saitama University, Japan, will deliver a seminar, ‘Externally Prestressed Concrete Structures -Mechanical Behavior, Theory, Design and Application’ on Thursday, October 26, 10:00-11:30 a.m. in room E-206.

Abstract:

The use of externally prestressed concrete (EPC) bridges has become popular. However, it is known from past studies that the ultimate flexural strength of externally prestressed beams is comparatively less than that of similar internal-bonded beams. In addition, these types of structures generally lack ductile behavior at the ultimate state. In this lecture, fundamental mechanical behavior and an analytical theory for EPC are described. In addition, the design method for such EPC and some actual EPC bridges are introduced.

All interested persons are welcome.
