Welcome to New Faculty
The School of Civil Engineering (SCE) is pleased to introduce the following new faculty members.
1. Dr. Ulrich Glawe, Associate Professor in Engineering and Applied Geology, was educated at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany, receiving his Ph.D. in 1992 in Engineering Geology and his Dipl-Ing. in Engineering Geology in 1989. He obtained his M.Sc. in Engineering Rock Mechanics from Imperial College, London in 1991. Dr. Glawe was awarded the 1992 Prof. Leopold Mueller Prize by the Austrian Society of Geomechanics for his outstanding Ph.D. dissertation. He has been involved in various projects in Europe, as well as in India, Indonesia, Iran, the Philippines, Chinese Taipei, and Turkey. His office is in room N249. Telephone extension: 5516. 2. Dr. Kyung-Ho Park, Assistant Professor in Soil Engineering, obtained his Doctoral degree in Civil Engineering from Suny at Buffalo, USA in 2001, and his Master and Bachelor degrees from Korea University in 1992 and 1990, respectively. Before joining SCE, he was connected with Converse Consultants in New Jersey as a Geotechnical Engineer. He worked as a research and teaching assistant at Suny at Buffalo from 1999 to 2001 and had been involved in several projects in Singapore, Brunei and Korea. Among other honors, he was named to the ‘Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges (2001)’ and was awarded a prize in the Technical Paper Contest for the 49th anniversary of the Hyundai Engineering and Construction Co., Ltd. 3. PROF. CHRISTIAN BROCKMANN, a Professor in Construction Management at the University of Applied Sciences, Bremen (Germany), joined the Construction Engineering and Management field of study, SCE, under DAAD funding. He received his Dipl-Ing in Civil Engineering from the Technical University of Braunschweig, Germany, in 1981. He will be here for six months teaching ‘Construction Project Administration’. 4. PROF. B. R. SRINIVASA MURTHY, currently a Professor at the Indian Institute of Science (India), joined the Soil Engineering field of study, SCE, as a Visiting Faculty for the January 2002 term seconded by the Government of India. Prof. Murthy received his Doctoral degree from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India in 1983. He obtained his M.Tech from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay in 1968 and his B.Eng. from Mysore University in 1966. He is teaching ‘Soil Dynamics’. Prof. Murthy’s office is in room N223. 5. PROF. SEKHAR K. CHAKRABARTI, a Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (India), is seconded for the January 2002 term to the Structural Engineering field of study, SCE, by the Government of India. Prof. Chakrabarti obtained his Master and Doctoral degrees from the University of Arizona, USA in 1983 and 1987, respectively, and his B.Eng. from Bengal Engineering College, University of Calcutta, India in 1972. The School of Advanced Technologies (SAT) is pleased to welcome three Visiting
Faculty who joined the Industrial Systems Engineering (ISE) Program in
the January 2002 term:
1. PROF. D.K. BANWET, Visiting Professor, is seconded by the Government of
India. He will teach the course AT03.27 – Quality Management.

Prof. Banwet was Professor of Management and Group
Chair of the Dept. of Management Studies at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. Prof. Banwet obtained his Ph.D. from IIT Delhi in 1981.
2. DR. SEHYUNG PARK, Visiting Lecturer, is seconded by the Korea Institute
of Science and Technology (KIST) through the joint research project,
‘Bio-Mechanical Model of Human Hip Joints’. During his secondment, covering the period 12 January – 27 February 2002, he will teach the course AT04.98 – Selected Topics: Geometric Modeling and
Reverse Engineering. Dr. Park’s office is in room 210,

Dr. Park is a Principal Researcher at the CAD/CAM Research Center, KIST. He obtained his Ph.D. from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in 1992.
3. DR. GUSTAVO BELFORTE, Visiting Associate Professor, is seconded through
a faculty exchange program between AIT and Politecnico di Torino,
Italy. Currently he is an Associate Professor of Automatic Control at
Dipartimento di Automatica e Informatica, Politecnico di Torino. At AIT,
he will share to teach the course AT07.22 – Robust and Adaptive
Control. As from 28 January, Dr. Belforte’s office will be in room
