HAPPY FACES FROM DIFFERENT RACES
Rija, Amy, Nabeela, Mrs. Sonia and of course, me, Aiden, had very happy faces on the 13th of February 2002. It was the day of our trip to the Girl Guide Headquarters in Bangkok, and all the Girl Guides from around Thailand (Representatives were chosen for each troop, otherwise there would be too much children) were there! We were representing the AIT Child Center, our school. We left at 12:00 p.m. and arrived there about the 1:00 p.m. The headquarters was a rather large building with Girl Guide, Blue Bird, and Senior Guide uniforms in the front window display.
First, we just sat down in the vacant chairs, waiting for other Girl Guides. Some Girl Guides and Blue Birds from I.S.B. were already there. I wanted to make friends, but I was rather shy. So we just started playing games to pass the time. Soon the presentations started and almost each troop had a presentation. We promised to present something, but we soon realized that the song we were going to sing was too long. After much thought, (at the last minute) we finally decided to sing our school song, the ”Child Center Hymn.’ We got a big round of applause when we finished singing. After the presentations were finished, everyone wandered around the room, looking for some arts that we wanted to do. We made very pretty and interesting things like bookmarks, windmills, etc. I enjoyed making the little arts, and they were quite new to me. We then had to answer questions in a paper, but I was in a big hurry because I didn’t have a pen and had to wait for a long time before I could borrow one.
We met the lady who founded the Girl Guides in Thailand, and I felt honored to have seen and met her. She was 80 years old, and could speak a bit of English. She was still quite strong for her age. In fact, she could walk, bend, talk like you and me! (Her voice was somehown shivering, an indication of her golden age).
All of us brought some items to swap with the other girls, but unfortunately, there were no more girls to swap the items with. So we just gave our things to some Thai Senior Guides that were still there, and the rest we swapped with each other. I felt rather sad, since I was looking forward to making friends with the other girls. But all in all, our trip was a success. It was just what I hoped it would be.
