ARRPET ANNUAL REVIEW WORKSHOP

The ‘Asian Regional Research Programme on Environmental Technology (ARRPET)’ will hold its Annual Review Workshop starting today 19 March 2002 at AIT.

Funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), ARRPET is coordinated by AIT and involves 20 National Research Institutions (NRIs) in 8 Asian countries, namely, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam. The program’s major research themes include: Wastewater Treatment and Management, Sustainable Solid Waste Landfill Management in Asia, Improving Air Quality in Asian Developing Countries and Industrial and Hazardous Waste Treatment and Management.

Over 30 Researchers from eight different Asian countries are expected to attend this event. The workshop aims at evaluation and discussion of the results and achievements of the on-going project research under ARRPET during the year 2001. Officials from Sida as well as experts from Sweden are also expected to take part in the proceedings of this workshop. More details about the programme can be obtained from the programme website

ARRPEEC-II ANNUAL REVIEW WORKSHOP

The ‘Asian Regional Research Programme in Energy, Environment and Climate Phase II (ARRPEC II)’ will hold its 3rd Annual Review Workshop on 25-27 March at AIT.

ARRPEEC-II is funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and coordinated by AIT. It is organized as a regional network involving a number of national institutions from several countries of East, Southeast and South Asia. The programme involves 23 institutions from 8 countries in Asia and it consists of four regional research projects namely: 1) Small and Medium Scale Industries in Asia; 2) Mitigating Environmental Emissions from the Power Sector; 3) Analyses of Technical Options for Mitigating Environmental Emissions from the Urban Transport Systems; and 4) Biomass Energy in Asia.

Over 40 researchers and policy makers from 8 different Asian countries are expected to attend this event. The workshop aims at evaluation and dissemination of the results and achievements of the current project and future activities of the third phase. PHOTONICS AND ITS IMPACT ON COMMUNICATIONS

Ramakant Srivastava, Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and
Director of Integrated Optics Laboratory, University of Florida, USA (on leave as a Fulbright Visiting
Professor at the Universiti Tenaga Nasional Malaysia) will conduct a seminar on Thursday,
28 March at 2:00 p.m
