President Armand meets with H. E. Mr. Pham Gia Khiem, Deputy Prime Minister of Viet Nam

President Jean-Louis Armand met with H. E. Mr. Pham Gia Khiem (right), Deputy Prime Minister of Viet Nam and other senior officials on 20 March 2002. Receiving visiting AIT President in Ha Noi, the Deputy Prime Minister praised AIT for its international standard programmes which have made valuable contributions through the training of highly skilled workers in Viet Nam. The Deputy Prime Minister expressed hope that AIT would further assist Viet Nam through quality training programmes and consultancy services for major projects. Viet Nam, he said will create favourable conditions for educational institutions that promote human resources development in the country towards meeting the goals of industrialization and modernization.

During their meeting, President Armand expressed sincere appreciation and gratitude to the Government of Viet Nam for the valuable assistance, support and encouragement extended to the Asian Institute of Technology. The Government of Viet Nam continues to provide infrastructure facilities and has granted special privileges and exemptions to facilitate the pursuit of the mission of AIT in Viet Nam through AIT Viet Nam and the Swiss-AIT-Viet Nam Management Development Programme (SAV). AIT has produced a corps of highly trained nationals of Viet Nam at the diploma, master and doctoral degree levels. Currently 326 students from Viet Nam are enrolled at AIT. Among the 11,260 alumni, 920 are from Viet Nam, majority of whom occupy senior positions in government, industry and academe.
