Training program focuses on public health in emergencies
The Asian Disaster Preparedness Center, through its Public Health in Emergencies Team, will conduct the international training program on Public Health in Complex Emergencies in Asia, to be held from 8 to 20 May 2006 in Bangkok. This course is jointly organized in association with the World Education, Inc., the International Rescue Committee, American University of Beirut and Makerere University Institute of Public Health, Uganda.
The Public Health in Complex Emergencies is a two-week residential course that focuses on critical public health issues faced both by nongovernmental and private organizations personnel working in complex emergencies.
The goal of the course is to enhance the capacity of humanitarian assistance workers and their organizations to respond to the health needs of refugees and internally displaced persons affected by these emergencies. Field staff from humanitarian, international and academic organizations have developed the curriculum specifically to meet the needs of organizations working in complex emergencies. This course is truly ‘of the field, by the field and for the field.’ The trainers are leading international and regional experts with a wide variety of field experience in complex emergencies.
