Oregon State University, AIT explore partnership

On 25 May 2006, Prof. Peter Haddawy and Dr. Ranamukhaarachchi, an associate professor at the School of Environment, Resources and Development, Mr. Kyaw Soe Hlaing, AIT Alumni Relations coordinator and Ms. Hnin Aye Lwin, program officer, External Relations and Communications Office, met with Dr. David Hannaway, Department of Crop & Soil Sciences, Oregon State University, Corvallis, U.S.A. and Mr. Alan S. Cooper, an Oregon State adjunct faculty member from ANE-Asia Associates LLC, Hua Hin, Thailand.

The purpose of the visit was to foster advancement in teaching, research, cultural understanding as well as to enhance international reputations of both institutions through:

  • Possibility of future collaboration on a doctoral student exchange program with a Thai university, AIT and Oregon State to build a three way partnership;
  • The exchange of students at the postgraduate level;
  • The exchange of faculty members in fields of mutual interest;
  • Collaboration in joint research and training program as a Mega Project
  • From this meeting, AIT has learnt that Dr. Hannaway and Mr. Cooper are interested to discuss the future collaboration with Remote Sensing, Geographic Information Systems and Global Positioning System and English training courses.

The visitors were impressed with the activities AIT is involved with and the potential for more substantial collaboration among AIT and Oregon State’s various interests.

Dr. Hannaway is tentatively planning to visit AIT in September to work out details of the partnership.
