AIT expert says latest tsunami information accurate for Thailand
An AIT faculty member quoted in the 19 July 2006 Bangkok Post said the system for issuing tsunami warnings worked in the case of Thailand and its location in relation to the earthquake that spawned a tsunami in Indonesia on 17 July.
Dr. Pennung Warnitchai, an associate professor of structural engineering at the School of Engineering and Technology, confirmed in the story that it had been the right decision of Thailand’s National Disaster Warning Centre not to issue a tsunami warning for Thailand based on the information.
