It may look like an average golf cart, but check behind the wheel of the Mechatronics Laboratory’s intelligent vehicle and there’s no driver.
The project, overseen by School of Engineering and Technology Associate Professor Dr. Manukid Parnichkun, was featured in the 28 July 2006 edition of The Nation newspaper.
The cart is able to drive itself either by following another vehicle with a red spot attached to its rear or by following a white line on the road. The prototype has a top speed of 3.6 kilometers per hour. The intelligent car is part of a 27 million baht project of the Thai Robotics Society and involves 12 institutions. A group of researchers working with the National Electronics and Computing Technology Center (NECTEC) will invite automotive manufacturers and the private sector to join the overall project.
