AIT and its recent initiatives and achievements have been noted in several newspapers and Web sites recently. From its recent 3R Knowledge Hub announcement this week, in which AIT teams with the Asian Development Bank, UNEP and UNESCAP to spread the environmentally sound theories of “reduce, reuse and recycle,” to announcements of the new center in Indonesia and scholarships from Pakistan, word of AIT is spreading.

Dr. S. Sohail H. Naqvi, executive director of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), said HEC and AIT signed an agreement recently to provide 60 scholarships for Pakistan students to further their studies at AIT in the next three years.
Matichon newspaper, Thailand, 3 July 2006: “AIT opens a center in Indonesia” – (Translation of first paragraphs) Prof. Said Irandoust, AIT president, disclosed recently that he and H.E. Ir. Djoko Kirmanto, Indonesia’s minister of Public Works signed an agreement to open an AIT center in Indonesia or AIT-CI (Asian Institute of Technology-Center in Indonesia) in Bandung, Indonesia, providing human resource development that will facilitate research and development, consultancy, professional training and higher education.
The opening of the AIT Center in Indonesia signals a strengthening in the relationship between AIT and the people of Indonesia, and this can bode well for all parties involved.
“We hope the center will contribute to science and technology in the Asia-Pacific region and produce people with the skills to strengthen the construction industry and public works infrastructure in Indonesia.
This is AIT’s second international center. The institute has run a center in Vietnam, with locations in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, since 1993. Through training and education in such fields as Transportation Engineering, Regional and Rural Development Planning, Urban Environmental Management, Agricultural Systems and Engineering and Water Engineering and Management, the leaders of tomorrow will be better prepared to address the practical needs of Indonesia. They will have a world-class, international education earned in their own back yard.
