Hailing from top organizations including the Internet Corporation for
Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), Electronic Frontier Foundation
(EFF), Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC), Com First
(India), Korea University Open Net, Asia Pacific Institute for Digital
Economy, and Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology
(KAIST), participants represented governments, international
organizations, civil society, and business sector.
“The Asia Pacific School on Internet Governance (APSIG) serves several
hundred Internet governance experts and leaders in Asia on their
professional upgrades through courses on the Internet governance,”
Prof. Kanchana Kanchanasut, Director, intERLab said.
Key resource persons and instructors included Jeremy Malcolm, Senior
Global Policy Analyst of EFF; Adam Peake, Executive Research Fellow at
the Center for Global Communications (GLOCOM); Mahesh Uppal, Director,
Com First India; KS Park, Co-founder of Open Net
Korea; Pablo Hinojosa, Strategic Engagement Director,
APNIC; Kilnam Chon, Member, Internet Hall of Fame; and Jim
Foster, Director, Director Keio International Center for the
Internet and Society.
Participants were exposed to introductory and advanced courses in
Internet Governance including aspects covering legal, political,
technology, engineering, economics, business, social, and local
language support. Internet governance, net neutrality, governance of
networked data, multistakeholder model, global internet users,
ecosystems, standardization, names and numbers organizations, human
rights, cyber security (crime, surveillance, warfare), internet
governance for Internet of Things (IoT), networked data and cyberspace
were key components of APSIG.
APSIG intends to serve several Internet governance leaders in Asia
through professional courses on the Internet governance. The next APSIG
2017 is scheduled to be held in August-September 2017.
