51 participants from 20 countries participate in EU camp

Fifty-one participants from 20 countries participated in the two-week long GeoServices-4-Sustainability (GeoS4S) international summer camp which concluded at AIT on 2 June 2017. Organized in Thailand by a consortium of 10 universities from Europe, China and Thailand, the project is cofunded by EU Commission under the Erasmus Plus programme.

Welcoming the participants, project leaders Prof. Nitin Kumar Tripathi of AIT, and Dr. Shahnawaz of the University of Salzburg stated that the camp was designed to enhance geospatial competencies of participants. Interfaculty Department of Geoinformatics– Z_GIS, University of Salzburg, Austria is the coordinating in institution for the project, and AIT being a partner institution.

Participants were taught 10 modules with different partner institutions taking the lead in delivering different courses. Students learned about climate change and adaptation strategies (Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography –CAS, Urumqi from China), Disaster Risk Management (China Mai University, Thailand), geo design (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Amsterdam, The Netherlands), Geoinformatics for coastal and marine resource management (AIT, Thailand), GIS for intelligent transportation system (Wuhan University, China), Advanced Remote Sensing (University of Sustainable Development, Eberswalde, Germany), Community and participatory GIS (King Mongkut’s University of Technology, Thonburi, Thailand), digital terrain analysis (Nanjing Normal University, Nanjing, China), Geo application development (Palacky University, Olomouc, Czech Republic), and GIS for health (AIT).

Besides, UNIGIS International Association and Geospatial Media and Communications in Netherlands and GeoInformatics International (Thailand) are associate partners in the project.

According to Dr. V. Rajesh Chowdhary, participating students came from Europe (Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Netherlands, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, and the United Kingdom), Asia (Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Philippines, Myanmar, Nepal, and Thailand), Africa (Cameroon) and North America (United States).
