Computers and Structures Inc (CSI), world’s leading structural and earthquake engineering software developer, has proposed the establishment of a CSI Chair at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) for Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai. Mr. Ashraf Habibullah, CSI President and CEO, committed an annual fund of $30,000 for an initial period of two years, but perpetually renewable to support his future professional activities and research. This offer was reported and well-received by members of the AIT’s Executive Committee in its meeting on 18 August 2018, who congratulated Prof. Worsak for his well-deserved honor.
In a message to Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, Mr. Habibullah congratulated President Worsak for the “remarkable achievements made to AIT during his presidency.” He added that it was through the strong support of Prof Worsak, initially as Director of the Asian Center for Engineering Computations and Software (ACECOMS), and later as Dean of School of Engineering and Technology, and now as AIT President, that CSI had an opportunity to work with AIT. Describing him as a “special shining star of the University of California at Berkeley,” he stated that Prof. Worsak had filled everyone with a sense of pride. Mr. Habibullah shares the same alma mater with Professor Worsak.
In recognition of his contributions, CSI has now offered to fund a “CSI Chair” for Prof. Worsak, to be able to continue his professional activities in affiliation with AIT after his retirement from Presidency on 1 September 2018.
Prof. Worsak added that he intends to use the fund to continue his professional activities and research for mankind, and added that he will not draw any salary from this fund. “This will facilitate my flexible-time professional engagement with AIT. This fund will help me reengage on my professional and academic activities, once I am relieved of administrative responsibilities,” Prof. Worsak added.
