AIT Culture Show ’16 – Stellar Student Performing Arts

Performing artists representing ten
countries took to the stage in competitive and non-competitive
categories. The eight-hour extravaganza included 45 unique
performances, many reflective of the mosaic of cultures found on
campus.
 
Magicians, fire eaters, dancing puppeteers, a multi-part video and
thought-provoking live theater underscored a dense programme of music
and dance that kept the judges busy and the AIT Community audience
undeniable entertained.
 
Children singers and dancers from the AIT International School,
accompanied by their teachers Mrs. Marichu P. Lawas, Ms. Sarita
Pinthong Mrs. Vinita Mrs. Joemarie Bandejas, opened the show.
 
Chief Guest Vice President for Academic Affairs Prof. S. Kumar and SU
President Jayasingam Adhuran delivered the welcome remarks, handing off
to charming student MCs Ms. Naw Thwee Htoo, Mr. Abiral Pant, Mr. Susith
Salgado and Ms. Subina Shrestha.
 
Chief organizer Ms. Ashruti Adhikari, Chairperson of the SU Culture
and Gender Committee, credited the small army of 38 Student Union
behind-the-scenes volunteers for the show’s success.

Myanmar was crowned the night’s overall champion when the total votes
were tallied. Category winners included Competitive Dance (Myanmar),
Solo/Duet Singing (Philippines), Group Singing (Sri Lanka), Drama (Sri
Lanka), Talent Show (Thailand), Fashion Show (Nepal), and Mr. and Ms.
Miss. AIT (Sri Lanka).
 
The Culture Show was livestreamed over the internet and branded as ‘SU
TV’. Judges included AIT staff members Ms. Laarni Roa, Dr. Anil Kumar
Anal, Mr. Sanjeev Jayasinghe, Ms. Sireeshapaul Bantu and Mr. Shawn
Kelly.
