“Turning Trash into Cash” Special Workshop on Upcycling Plastic Waste by ‘Dominic Chakrabongse’

AIT Marine Plastics Abatement students got hands-on experience for ‘turning trash into cash’ from a lecture-cum-workshop conducted by a high-profile environmentalist and Director of Precious Plastic Bangkok, Dominic Puwasawat Chakrabongse, on February 16, 2021.

The workshop entitled “Turning Trash into Cash – A Community-Based Approach” was offered as part of the Plastic to Material Technology course in the Marine Plastics Abatement Program (MPA) of the School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD). During the workshop, AIT students learned about upcycling technology and creative ways to transform plastic waste into valuable craft products.

AIT Received a Donation to Support GTE Laboratory Equipment

Mr. Nuttapong Kovittayanun, Managing Director at CeTeau (Thailand) Co., Ltd., signed a donation agreement with AIT President, Dr. Eden Y. Woon, to support the amount of THB 200,000 towards the Geotechnical and Earth Resources Engineering (GTE) laboratory, School of Engineering & Technology (SET).

Dr. Eden Woon, expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to Mr. Nuttapong, and mentioned that AIT always looks for funding for research to create its ability to attract bright students.

AIT and its Partners Support Thailand in Implementation of $2M ADB Technical Assistance on Climate-Smart Agriculture

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of Thailand on 13 January 2021 announced a $2 million technical assistance grant to help promote the adoption of climate-smart agriculture in highlands of northern Thailand.

The Technical Assistance, funded by the Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction, will help local governments demonstrate to highland farmers climate-resilient practices and technologies for improving agricultural productivity, value addition and food traceability, and tap into local knowledge to enhance food security in a changing climate.

AIT Mechatronics Specialists create ‘Auto Guided Vehicle Control System’ to upgrade Manual Forklifts into Driverless Machines

Mechatronics specialists at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) are working on a new project on ‘Sensor Signal Processing and Control Unit for Laser Guided Vehicle’ that manufactures a control box which can be installed on any type of manual forklifts to convert them into autonomous, driverless forklifts.

The Hult Prize is an annual, year-long competition for university students around the world that challenges on campus teams to solve social issues such as food security, water access, energy, and education. It is home to the world’s largest college and university network for social impact and offers a US$1 million prize to help the winning team launch a social enterprise.
