AIT has previously benefitted from a formal institutional level support
from Belgium. Belgium now wishes to explore the possibility of
re-engaging with AIT in regional collaborative projects where AIT could
be an important platform for such an undertaking. The AIT initiative in
Afghanistan, partnering with the World Band and capacity building
efforts of Balkh University were discussed in the meeting.

The Ambassador also reconfirmed that the Governments of Vietnam and
Belgium will be forming a joint committee for activities in Vietnam in
which AIT would also be involved. The Embassy is also following up with
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belgium on the status of the new AIT
Charter, and a possible re-engagement of the Belgium, as a signatory
once it is formally adopted.

AIT also extended an invitation to Ambassador Veestraeten to visit AIT
for more detailed discussions.
