Abstract:

AI Chips: A Brief Review: Currently, there is a huge demand for implementing artificial intelligence (AI) on silicon. The AI Chip ecosystem has been shaped by three main computing technologies, namely, neuromorphic, quantum and high-performance, with the current main focus on the latter one. This talk will briefly present each of them, while driving discussions around which one will win the battle for the future of AI.

The Impact of Machine Learning on Processor Technology and System Architectures: Slowdown in Moore's Law, loss of Dennard scaling, end of multicore scaling (a.k.a., dark silicon) and the “relative” algorithmic success of Deep Learning (DL) are driving computer processors and systems to more specialized processors and systems, mainly for modern workloads in vertical market segments like mobile communications (e.g., SDNs), Bitcoin mining, IoT, intelligent robots, driverless car and machine learning. This talk will briefly present and discuss the impact and challenges around modern processor technology and system architectures due to the relative success of DL.
